As the weekend winds down, many of us experience what I call the “Sunday Sunset Shadow” – that sinking, foreboding feeling that creeps in as the sun sets on Sunday evening. For those battling anxiety or depression, this feeling can be particularly intense.
This shadow can cast a heavy blanket over the promise of a new week, making it hard to focus on anything other than the looming stress.
But remember, everyone is always doing the best they can with the knowledge and understanding they have in that moment… and that includes you When you know better, you can do better, right?
If the Sunday Sunset Shadow feels overwhelming, try these tips to lighten the load:
- Plan a Relaxing Sunday Evening: Engage in activities that calm your mind, like reading a book, taking a bath, or listening to an uplifting, yet calming meditation. Go easy on yourself. Most things can wait until tomorrow
- Prepare for the Week Ahead: Organize your tasks for the upcoming week to feel more in control and less anxious about Monday.
- Connect with Loved Ones: Spend time with friends or family, or even have a chat with someone who understands your feelings and someone who calms your nervous system.
- Physical Activity: Get outside. Take a light walk or do some gentle yoga in the afternoon or after dinner. Movement & sunlight can really help reduce anxiety and improve your mood.
- Take off your shoes: Walk barefoot on your lawn or back yard or in a park. Anywhere where you can ground yourself to the earth.
If the Sunday Sunset Shadow still feels overwhelming, it might be a sign to reach out for support. People find their way to me in the exact time and space sequence that is right for them. You are not alone in this somewhat unsettling feeling & you don’t have to continue to experience it
